When a civilian is unconscious and unresponsive, police take that as “refusing” to comply and “resisting arrest.” The only proper response to that is to punch the person in the face repeatedly and shove his face into the ground. Then maybe he’ll learn not to be so diabetic next time.

When cops commit a crime, they should be treated as criminals; not as an employee making a clerical error. If they were held as accountable as us peons, they would think twice before crossing the line.

That's absolutely true. While posting articles like this online isn't the same as firing the bastards and maybe fining them and giving them prison time, at least it embarasses the departments whose officers are responsible for such horrors. Somehow, some way, this monstrousness has got to stop.

This is especially worrisome with regards to the implicit lack of professionalism of the San Antonio Police Department, because dealing with persons who have collapsed due to medical conditions is exactly the sort of thing a police officer is expected to do. If a police officer encounters someone unconscious or semi-conscious, his first assumption should be that the person has a medical condition -- possibly requiring emergency room assistance -- not that they are "resisting arrest!"

I can't overemphasize this. Police are more likely to be in situations where they must assist the injured than they are in situations where they must subdue those resisting arrest. The fact that two police officers would do this -- and to an obviously elderly man to boot -- implies that the San Antonio Police Department can no longer be considered professional by American standards.

Or that they are reasonably human -- i.e., they could not possibly have a conscious. That that police dpeartment would encourage them in this, and that a judge and jury would let the bastards off, speaks volumes about San Antonio in particular and Tecas in general as places to visit or live: like, not in your right mind, would you!
