He wanted a 1970's Disney movie marketed for the preteen demographic to accurately portray the physics of space in and around an event horizon?

Has he actually sat down and categorized what his own beliefs about black holes were at that time... and how well those beliefs line up with what we think we know on the subject now? I'm willing to bet that his "accuracy" rate isn't actually a whole lot better than Disney's, really. Pretty much all of the widely accepted theories from that time (beyond the most general) are now thought to be at the least seriously flawed, if not completely wrong.

And leaving that aside, why should a children's entertainment movie be scientifically accurate? What's next - he's going to take on Peter Pan for the non-scientific stuff in it? Maybe The Lion King or Aladdin? Or perhaps he only wants to take on nonanimated entertainments... such as The Addams Family or Bewitched.

Idiot.

Why don't you email Dr. Tyson with those questions. I'm sure he'd be happy to let you know his reasons.
