Say what you like about Fidel, but he doesn't bother lying or sugar-coating things. Of course, he doesn't really need to, he's arranged things that way.

The truly scary thing is that, as badly as he's abused his own people subjects slaves, so many of them still enthusiastically support fawn over him. Probably the single greatest oppressor the Cuban people have ever known (much like Mao in China), and they'll beatify him when he dies. Although at least Cuba isn't going the North Korea route and deifying the entire family.

I have to agree with you. Yes, Fidel doesn't need to lie, but we know why that is. And yes, a lot of Cubans will likely deify the sonofabitch when he dies. Unless they're Roman Catholics. Then they'll decide he's a saint and pray to him with prayer candles for help with certain things, like praying to the Virgin for a good pregnancy and a healthy baby, or to Michael/Miguel that your husband or sons will come alive and in one piece from war, and so on. {sigh} People can be such idiots. :-P
